Daily Makeup Essentials
You know what’s great about makeup routines like these? They're simple.
The fact that you don’t need to search through multiple beauty drawers or bags for that one brush makes everything better. Don't get me wrong, I have a collection, but I've learned minimize my routine for the sake of time (or lack of).
In the past few years I’ve become more interested in beauty and makeup products. I think makeup is an art and some people out there are really talented - me? I'm a work in progress and for now I'll stick to my tutorials.
Although I love makeup, my skincare has become a top priority — I prefer to just take good care of my skin with natural products and then use makeup when necessary. I prefer a natural or the less-is-more makeup look on a daily basis. This is just my preference — if you like less, great, if you like more, great. In the words of Maya the Great, DO YOU BOO!
First, I opt for a primer that offers a smooth base and that isn't too sticky on my skin. My concern with a lot of primers in the market are that they either dry out my skin or become too sticky for me to apply product. That’s one of the worst things that can happen when you’re in a hurry or only want to spend 15 minutes on your makeup: you apply your primer, go in with your foundation only to wash your face and start again. That's why I use Cover FX Mattifying Primer, it gets the job done and doesn't leave my skin too dry. I also follow up with a small amount of my whipped shea butter mix for these colder months.
As I mentioned, my process is fairly simple and I try to keep it as minimal as possible. If I’m reaching for only a handful of products, a brow pencil HAS to be in my top five. People are opting for cream based brow gels, but I use both. A brow pencil from the beauty supply store is and will always be a staple in my beauty household.
If you're on a budget I recommend NYX Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade, but if you want to spend a little more coins on something that will last I recommend Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade. They're both fairly cheap, but you know. I'll be honest at first I was apprehensive because I heard so much about it, but this stuff is the truth. Cons of the cheaper option were that it kept drying out and I'd have to add oil every so often.
After brows, I move on to foundation and then my eyes. I'm in between foundations right now, but am excited to try Rihanna's Fenty Beauty soon. The reviews have been great despite every store running out and restocking. Right now I'm using Maybelline's Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation and Becca Cosmetics.
I follow up with the famous LA Girl Pro Conceal to brighten my eyes and set with NYX finishing powder. On days like these I don't too much sculpt my face, but go for a natural, awake look. I'll write a more detailed post on my full daily routine soon - new products and all. Lastly, follow up with your favorite mascara and nude lipstick of choice.
These are the items I currently have in my cosmetic bag that I use on a daily basis. I have a lot more that I will rotate in or out or use for a certain look.
