How I Cleared My Skin

Skincare Routine for Dark Spots & Hyperpigmentation | A simplified three step skincare routine for dark spots & post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Read more on the blog. I received a few questions regarding my skincare routine as I've been on a journey to simplify products and consume less in all areas of my life. This is my current skincare routine featuring three known and beneficial products.

WHAT IS HYPERPIGMENTATION?

Hyperpigmentation occurs when something causes an overproduction of melanin in the skin or even from an injury. There are different types  of hyperpigmentation.

However the hyperpigmentation that occurs after an acne wound has healed, is called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Which causes discoloration and uneven skin tone - think about a scratch on your body, a scar soon appears in the healing process, right?

As a melanin-filled woman, we are more susceptible to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. However it can affect anyone of any race, ethnicity, or skin tone.

I’m always trying different products and swapping them in and out of my routine, but wanted to minimize my routine while maximizing results. I believe I've achieved this goal with these steps: cleanse, tone and moisturize.

I try to do this twice a day, but if I have a full face of makeup or haven't been taking care of my skin in a while, I opt for a facial scrub. My routine is simple and practical since I'm always on the move and I'm excited to see how it will glow this spring.
