I have been feeling extremely overwhelmed as of late. Earlier this week I think it finally began to sink in for me just how stressed I truly am. Working a full-time job, attending classes again, trying to improve my health and taking on various side jobs for experience and bills can be quite a handful. Besides our self care exercises, sometimes it feels like there is just not enough time in the day and balancing our lives can prove to be intimidating and difficult. It took me a while to finally get here and regardless of where you are in your life, these five tips will help you learn to create balance in your daily life again.

Affirmations

Never underestimate the power of affirmations in your daily life. I'd always heard of being positive and speaking things into the atmosphere, but lately it seems sticky notes are my go-to. I keep a few in my professional and personal workspaces as well as bedroom. At the start of the new year, I chose one phrase and scripture to define what I wanted to achieve in my year. The phrase be intentional and Habakkuk 2:2 stood out to me among any other thoughts.

Write the vision. Make it clear on tablets so that anyone can read it quickly. The vision will still happen at the appointed time. It hurries toward its goal. It won’t be a lie. If it’s delayed, wait for it. It will certainly happen. It won’t be late.  -Habakkuk 2:2

Since then I've decided to incorporate both in my daily life. I write and post inspirational messages everywhere making a point to read at least three before I leave the house. It gives me the opportunity to be reminded of my purpose and how I plan to get through the day.

Daily Devotionals

I was never a morning devotional person and instead devoted my time to scripture when I could. As I'm aging, I'm learning more and more to lean on God, and take some time to be fully focused spiritually. Just as I would schedule time for a night out or spending time with friends, I recognized that I was missing my main line of wellness: my spirit.

Spending time with God shouldn't feel like a chore and I decided to make the most of my time learning. Growth is truly a process and it's important to incorporate these lessons into our daily lives. I find it easier to start my day with reading, prayer and reflection. Doing this in the morning prepares not only my mind, but my spirit for the day ahead. If you're struggling with finding your center and soon you'll gain more confidence in your walk.

Early Mornings

It took me some time, but I've begun to wake up earlier and spend that time refocusing. Along with devotionals and affirmations, I jot down my ideas, goals and how I plan to achieve them. Take a step back and look at your life, your state of mind and your emotions. Acknowledge and write down the areas of your life you've been neglecting. I also take time to work on my passion projects and plan my day in full.

If mornings aren't your thing, there is also a correlation between productivity and bedtime.

Health and Wellness

My health has been my main priority this year as it should be, but it is so easy to become distracted. Unfortunately my mornings were so packed that I could only squeeze in fitness after work which was exhausting. However, your physical and mental health is all about mindset. To help with this, my friends and I have started accountability sessions to stay on track. This includes partnered workouts, weekly check-ins and always sending encouraging messages. Doing this not only encourages a supportive community, but helps ease you into a routine.

Organization

We always manage to remember the phrase "clean mind, clean body, clean spirit," but what about the home?  First thing’s first, I have tried many methods to keep my space under control. I can map out the areas and do what needs to be done, but activity and productivity are not the same thing.

My space was beginning to fill toxic within itself, there was no space, no light and it became frustrating to handle. One reason for this was because I had too much going on and not devoting enough time to me or my space. In theory, doing it all seems feasible but has it's limits.

I realized I had to let some things go from my plate and work to re-prioritize my space. Organization begins with the mind, but for me I needed to start somewhere physical. Starting with my closet and bedroom I got rid of anything that didn't provide me with purpose. I then sat down and wrote every activity, schedule and potential plans.

From there I thought which of these is truly working towards the space I want to be in. Is there value in pursuing this opportunity?

Ultimately achieving this idea of balance equates to the things you realize you want in your life. Once those pieces are defined, everything else will work itself out.
