Five Ways to Boost Your Creativity
As a full-time creative, my mind can become a complex and hard to interpret. The ability to transfer ideas and strategies to create meaningful, original work is a necessity these days.
Although, it may look easy to some degree there are certain things you can do to increase your creativity when planning out or continuing to build your blog, product or even just an idea. Here are five ways to boost your creativity:
1. Create a mood board
Often referred to as a vision board, mood boards are my favorite thing to do in my free time. I have several mood boards for different projects, goals and even outfit inspiration. The traditional way is to use old magazines, a poster board and any other materials you have lying around, and go to work. In present day, I prefer to use Pinterest to make my ideas come to life.
2. Surround Yourself with other Creatives
Being apart of creative communities are not only great for inspiration, but building a network too. I thrive off of being immersed with like-minded people with similar goals in the creative space. If you're seeking to join an online community, I recommend #blkcreatives.
3. Try Something New
Humans are creatures of habit. Doing things out of habit tends to undermine creative thought and place you in a state of content. If you're seeking to boost your creative juices, do something different or mark off something on your bucket list. Even something as simple as taking a new route to work or experimenting with your hair counts.
4. Write it Down
Instead of worrying about remembering that idea you had in the shower this morning, write it down. I use my Passion Planner and use my notes app to keep track of everything Then later, I go back over my ideas and consider which ones are worth keeping.
5. Take a walk
Stop being so focused on the task at hand and relax. Experts say that exercise improves your mood; when you're happy, you're focused. It's as simple as that. When I work on projects for a long period of time, I have to take a a 10 minute break to clear my head.
